February 8 - July 9, 2027

From 8 February to 9 July 2027, the Tauern railway tunnel will be completely closed due to extensive modernisation works. Bad Gastein will remain accessible by public transport throughout the construction period.

For guests travelling from Salzburg, hourly rail replacement buses will operate between Schwarzach-St. Veit and Bad Gastein.

Replacement services will also be available for passengers travelling further south on the Tauern route. Direct buses between Bischofshofen and Spittal/Millstättersee will operate every hour. Night trains will be diverted during the closure.

The closure is part of the second phase of a major modernisation programme for the Tauern tunnel and railway line. In addition to work inside the tunnel, tracks, overhead lines and railway infrastructure at several locations will be renewed. The Tauern car shuttle service will also be modernised and is scheduled to resume operation on 10 July 2027.

What does this mean for our guests?

You can still travel to Bad Gastein by public transport during the construction works. However, please allow for potentially longer journey times due to the replacement bus services and check your current connection before travelling.

We recommend using the ÖBB journey planner to plan your individual trip.
